Adoro a delicadeza da luz no vestido, os detalhes do tecido da roupa e do lenço dos cabelos. Os ombros algo descaídos acentuam certa fragilidade e acanhamento. Ela tem um olhar esperançoso e apreensivo, talvez pela conhecida infidelidade do marido.

Vi o quadro no Museu do Prado, enquanto apresentava meu filme durante o festival Documenta Madrid. “A falta que me faz” era minha condessa. Foi inesquecível ver o retrato de Goya.

The Countess of Chinchón was nineteen years old and four months pregnant. Goya painted her alone, in a room, on a dark background with no decorative elements. She takes her husband’s portrait in the ring, and her hands gently touch her womb.

I love the subtlety of the light on the dress, the details of the fabric of the clothes and of her hair scarf. The shoulders, something slumpy, accentuate a certain fragility of her expression. She has a hopeful and apprehensive gaze, perhaps motivated by the knowledge of her husband’s infidelity.

I saw the painting in the Prado Museum, while presenting my film during the festival Documenta Madrid. “Like water through stone” was my Countess. It was most precious to see the portrait of Goya.

Começa dia 06 de maio, a oitava edição do Festival Internacional Documenta Madrid. O festival que recebe o maior número de espectadores da capital espanhola, aposta em “mostrar como o documentário contemporâneo se aventura por terrenos inovadores de linguagem e formas, mas não deixando de exibir também filmes clássicos, numa tentativa de potencializar e difundir o gênero documental”.

On May 6th, begins the eighth edition of the International Festival Document Madrid. The festival, which receives the greatest number of viewers of the Spanish capital, bets on “showing how the contemporary documentary ventures through innovative places of language and forms, but also shows classic films in an attempt to increase and diffuse the documentary genre”.

Nesta sexta, 06 de maio, A falta que me faz será exibido no Rio de Janeiro. O filme integra a mostra Cinema Brasileiro: anos 2000, 10 questões, realizada pelo Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil.

This Friday, May 6th, will be displayed, in Rio de Janeiro, the film Like water through stone. The film is a part of the exhibition Brazilian Cinema: 2000s, 10 questions, organized by Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil.

Finalmente consegui separar algumas imagens de Nyon, durante o festival Visons du Réel.

Queria registrar um super agradecimento a Jenny Bileter, que me acompanhou, mediou os debates e escreveu um belo texto sobre meus filmes. E acima de tudo é dessas pessoas que, desde no primeiro encontro, se tornam amigas de longa data.

I was finally able to sort out some images of Nyon, during the Festival Vison du Réel.

I wanted to put on the record a big thank you to Jenny Bileter, who accompanied me, who was the mediator in the debates and wrote a beautiful text about my movies. And above all she is one of those persons that, on the very first meeting, becomes a longtime friend.
